EVENT UPDATE: Due to the continued restrictions on the State of California and the County of San Diego. The Kook Run organizers were informed recently that the City of Encinitas will NOT be permitting any special events through the 1st quarter, and possibly into 2nd quarter 2021. We know this is not information anyone wants to hear, but this is the reality we live in currently.

We were hoping 2021 would serve as the glorious return of the Kook Run that everyone knows and loves, but this will have to wait until 2022. We will be offering a virtual race option in 2021 on the event scheduled race date of Feb 7th, 2021.

What does this mean for the current runners:

  • All runners will automatically be transferred over to the VIRTUAL OPTION for the event date of February 7, 2021.  We are finalizing the details for a concept to set up an arch and a check-in location  (with a private property) in downtown Encinitas. This will allow our runners the opportunity to have an official start and finish line. The course will NOT be closed to traffic and runners will obey traffic laws. The proposed virtual course would still run along the 101, with a photographer at the Kook statue to capture event memories and your costumes. In addition to this, we will be continuing the tradition of the costume contest as part of The Kook Run Virtual Event. ("for those runners that are interested"). We are navigating all these logistics but will have more information out to runners and posted on our website within the first 2 weeks of January. An official virtual race email will still be sent out to runners 1 week prior to the virtual race date.  Virtual Race option does include Medal, Shirt, and Bib

  • If you would rather defer your race registration to the 2022 race date, we will happily do this. Please email or reply to this email, with your request. You will be sent a deferment registration code in the 3rd quarter when 2022 race registration is scheduled to open.  The deadline to defer your 2021 race entry is January 24th.
