The Kids get their own day to run at the Junior Kook Run! The Ecke YMCA will come alive on Saturday, February 8th for a Kooky Race for Kids ages 3-11. Family and friends can cheer their kids along as they run distances that start at a 400 yds and go up to 1 mile on a closed and marked course hosted entirely at the YMCA. The adults get their day on Sunday, and Saturday is all about our Junior Kooks!

Immediately following the final event, Junior Kooks can rock out and celebrate at the Junior Kook concert brought to you by Bach to Rock! Come out for the run and stick around for a Rockin' celebration!

Race Course

The race starts in the south parking lot of the YMCA (at packet pickup/registration expo) and follows a spacious closed course along the back of the soccer arenas and camp areas before turning around at the North Parking Lot and running back towards the start. This will create a loop to allow the event to stretch the various distances from 400 yds to 1 mile. The start line will act as the finisher's line with our Junior Kooks returning to finish at the south parking lot and the packet pickup/registration expo.

Ages 3-5 - Runs 1 Lap. --> 400 yds

Ages 6-7 - Runs 2 Laps --> 800 yds

Ages 8-9 - Runs 3 Laps. --> 1200 yds

Ages 10-12 - Runs 4 Laps. --> 1 Mile

Race Schedule

8:30 a.m. -YMCA SOUTH parking lot opens, Over flow parking will be available in the North Lot

(Please arrive a few minutes early as we expect the South lot to fill during the Junior Kook Run)

9:00 a.m. - Packet Pickup for Pre Registered Runners Opens

10:00 a.m - Day of Event Registration Opens

10:30 a.m. - Ages 3-5 Junior Kook Start

10:40 a.m. - Ages 6-7 Junior Kook Start

10:55 a.m. - Ages 8-9 Junior Kook Start

11:10 a.m. - Ages 10-12 Junior Kook Start

Start and Finish Line Staging

All distances will start and finish under the event arch in the North parking lot of the Ecke YMCA. We will have staff from Race San Diego, the YMCA, and volunteers from Team OMG stationed at the start and finish line, along the course, and at all turns to make sure the course is monitored for safety at all times. Families and groups wanting to run together, strollers and wheelchairs must start in the back of each age/distance appropriate wave.

Important Notices

The Junior Kook Run is available to all interested kids regardless of their guardians or families participation in the 10K or 5K on Sunday.
Late starters are not allowed, be sure you’re at the event at least 30-45 mins prior to your Junior Kook's start time.
The Junior Kook Run will be a timed event with online results.
Only paid participants and accompanying adults will be allowed on the course.
This event will take place rain or shine, no refunds or deferrals.
Leave all pets at home. Dogs (except service dogs) are not allowed at the YMCA.
NO roller skates, inline skates, scooters, skateboards, bikes or other such devices are allowed.
